Having trouble deep cleaning your carpet? Do you need to go over the same spot several times? On the hunt for a new central vacuum, you tell yourself: "I need a vacuum with the highest power in airwatts!". This affirmation is both true and false at the same time.

In fact, a unit’s power (airwatts) is calculated between two properties: the waterlift and the airflow. These two properties are connected one another and form together the general power of a central vacuum system. It is therefore important to choose a device that offers either a strong waterlift or a strong airflow, depending on your needs. Drainvac offers certain models like the DV2A32-27, which during the installation, can be configured to concentrate the unit’s power to provide more airflow by sacrificing a little waterlift (or vice-versa).

What is the airflow?

The airflow (calculated in CFM or m3/h) indicates the amount of air vacuumed per minute or per hour with a fully opened hose. The higher the value, the more coverage you get. A bigger airflow is normally what you look for if you want to clean hard-surfaced floors in order to reach as far as possible.

What is waterlift?

The waterlift (calculated in H2O or mmH2O), indicates the maximum suction force (pressure) of the device when the hose opening is blocked. The higher this value, the more heavy objects or dense materials the unit can vacuum. A high suction force is usually required for deep carpet cleaning or for vacuuming liquids.

Notice how both units have the same amount of airwatts (4 x 420), but have different H2O and CFM values. When you are shopping for a new central vacuum system, be sure to know the distinction between these two properties to find the right model for your needs.
